What do you mean by Synthesis?

Are we really doing Pilates?

Synthesis - the combination of ideas to form a theory or system

Yes! We are really doing Pilates. The idea of Synthesis is to take multiple practices and sciences ~ put it together to achieve a beneficial end result.

In over 10 years of training folks in the Pilates practice I have yet to discover a better set of foundational principles:

  • Breath

  • Control

  • Center

  • Flow

  • Precision

  • Concentration

These engage and transform body to achieve goals!

In addition, the apparatus from Joseph Pilates is nothing less than brilliant.

Assistance & Resistance

The ability to modify for a competitive athlete or someone recovering from a complete hip replacement. All of it to be able to accomplished the same task on the same piece of equipment.

With these thoughts in mind, training of individuals doesn’t diverge greatly from those principles and can be accomplished on the apparatus. Taking into consideration the education I have continuously sought after to enhance the original work taught to me in my Pilates training it becomes an amalgamation of information for better results. For example some of the things I bring to a training session are the understanding of fascia and how that may impact a restriction somewhere. An understanding of how the nervous system may help or hinder movement.

So do we still do Footwork on the Reformer, Feet in Straps on the Tower, and Lunges on the Chair? Yes, but before all of this we will do movements to ensure the ENTIRE hip is working for you. That the load is appropriate for you. And the range of motion is appropriate for that day.

Synthesis = Working Smarter Not Harder

Synthesis = Personalization

Synthesis = Obtaining Greater Results

P.S. Also, my son told me I could not name it Pilates Amalgamation.
